“I am going to hire someone to do my sales and marketing because my personality type isn’t good at that stuff.”

“I’ve got too much Feminine energy to be doing these Masculine energy parts of my business…”

How many times have I heard women entrepreneurs uttering these sentences over the years? And how many times have I entertained these ideas for myself?

So many women who are just starting out in business are thinking some version of, “I just wish I could have someone do that hard/boring part for me.” (Which is usually only optimal for a later stage business – more on that later).

I call this “White Knight syndrome,” because it’s as though they want a White Knight to ride in on his White horse and rescue them from having to go through the birth canal of truly braving it as an entrepreneur.

This is problematic for SO MANY REASONS, but here are a few big ones.

1) The role it puts these women in is “Damsel In Distress,” which is simply not the archetype of a successful business owner. The energy that needs to be embodied is “Badass Warrior” or “Magical Manifesting Priestess,” and the transformation into this version of ourselves IS the evolutionary journey of entrepreneurship. We need to experience the birth process and that involves some labor. The frustrations, struggles and massive amounts of discomfort are priceless learning opportunities. If we outsource this, we stay the same, and we will not expand our capacity to receive. And anyway, this imaginary White Knight doesn’t exist (see #2), so we may get stuck in a holding pattern and never truly live our purpose.

2) Our soul business is like a snowflake. No one has ever done it like we will, because it is birthed from the depths of our hearts. Only we know exactly how to make it work. Even if we imitate someone who appears to be succeeding at the exact same game, it will not be the same for us, because of the subtle component that is particularly present for those who identify primarily with Feminine Energy and want to attract those clients.

I have days and days of ridiculous stories from my Vedic Astrology practice about implementing proven marketing strategies that would never work for me, and fly-in-the-face-of-marketing-wisdom things that consistently attract people to me. I have spent *thousands* of dollars over the years, trying to get experts to tell me how to do it, and not one of those dollars translated into a client.

It is so incredibly tempting, when we feel lost, overwhelmed and scared, to reach for an authoritative Masculine person to tell us what to do or actually do things for us. This is the Shadow Feminine at work. But we are simply outsourcing our confidence and wisdom. Of course we absolutely need coaches and mentors, but these people will inadvertently lead us astray if:

a) we don’t hire them from a sense of deep alignment in our hearts and do it from fear or scarcity instead or

b) they are not consistently advising us to check in with our hearts to find our deepest truth and operate from that place, and are instead telling us what they know will work for us. (Spoiler alert – hiring this person can be a very expensive mistake!)

At the end of the day, we know best, and it’s just a matter of trusting ourselves, being willing to “fail” and learn and iterate, and using our inner guidance to choose which outside information to welcome in.

3) Once we’ve gotten things working to a certain point in our business, where we understand how it all works and what’s really involved, delegation is wonderful. We can focus on our zone of genius. But if we don’t learn about all these pieces ourselves, we risk becoming completely dependent on our partner/staff etc. What if they need to leave us? What happens then? If we don’t at least understand all parts of our business, it’s ultimately disempowering.

In reality, running a business completely in our feminine isn’t actually ideal (and the inverse is true too!) We need to balance our masculine and feminine energies inside because both are needed.

A friend of mine once suggested having weekly meetings with my inner masculine to plan out the week and give it structure so my inner feminine could have more space to play. I find this practice very helpful and highly recommend it to anyone who feels any resistance being in their masculine energy.

I hope that this is useful for any budding female or feminine-energy-dominant entrepreneurs! We are truly the ones we’ve been waiting for.

For the sake of this post, I’m defining addiction as anything we consistently choose instead of feeling uncomfortable, even if it’s not good for us in the long term.

Over the years, I’ve noticed a particular relationship between addiction and life purpose that I’ve found very helpful for myself, and my clients who want to end their addictive behavior and find deeper fulfillment.

I’ve noticed that addictions flare up when we are out of alignment in a key area of our life, and not living in integrity with our truth.

Rather than feel the profound pain of self-deception, many of us reach for a temporary pacifier.

The bigger the chasm between our heart’s clear knowing and our choices, the more we suffer anxiety, depression, and anger, and the more we are tempted to seek relief.

But relief is the antidote of alignment.

Relief is a cover up.

The longer we rest in relief, the further we drift from our true selves because we can’t feel our deepest truth.

The only way to align with our inner compass is to sit in the discomfort.

If we constantly tolerate having addictions, we are accepting an early, living death. We may still be breathing but we are not truly alive. We are going through the motions.

This is because addictions rob us of our joy, vitality and creativity by giving us a quick hit of contentment (or the drama of fighting the addiction) instead of allowing us to see what’s really so and change accordingly. They are an elaborate distraction.

The real cure for addiction is to feel the pain of self denial, of half-living, of thwarted self expression, so we can be adequately motivated to take the heroic steps necessary to get into alignment with our dharma, our true purpose.

The genuine fulfillment available to us when we are in the flow of our dharma is so deeply satisfying that the desire to self medicate with life’s various “junk foods” falls away.

This is why living in full alignment with our own truth can completely cure us of our addictions.

(And for things that are physically addictive or hard wired into our nervous systems, there are myriad modalities to help with that piece).

It’s simple but it’s not easy.

Humans won’t change unless the change appears easier than staying the same.

Most of the time it seems harder to change, so we don’t end that relationship, quit that job, start that business or pursue our passion, because it’s scary and unknown.

We also don’t easily give up our comfortable, addictive behavior for this same reason.

But if we can stop the behavior just long enough to sit in our daily suffering and allow the agitation to eat away our lies, change suddenly seems easier and we find the strength and courage to take that big leap forward, to dive off the familiar cliff into the abyss of the unknown, where all the magic lives.

This is the difference between having a life we are in love with instead of a life we are surviving. It is not a path for the faint of heart but it is worth it.

By the second day, I was feeling more disoriented than ever. What was I doing there? What was the point? I went out for the evening feeling sad, confused, distraught, and completely overwhelmed.

I considered heading back to my tent to curl up into a ball and go to sleep, but the festival was so big and dark that I couldn’t find my way there.

I wandered around reluctantly, and something caught my eye. There was a small gallery displaying the most beautiful images I had ever seen.

(Up until that point I had only encountered one piece of Visionary Art and had no idea there was more).

I went to stand in front of the first artwork that drew me in, Archer of Bardos and Stars by Kris Davidson and Kurt Redeker.

This is where things started to get weird and bit unbelievable.

After a few moments, the artwork began radiating its energy toward me. It reached out with its harmonious tendrils of sacred geometry and began to actively heal me from the inside out.

I started to feel a transcendent level of peace. My heart relaxed and all of the sudden I was truly joyful for the first time in a long time.

How was this even possible, I wondered?

In that instant, I realized that art is always impacting our consciousness, but we don’t always notice. I understood that we can choose art for the purpose of our awakening and healing, not just because it’s beautiful.

✨Art is not decoration, it is a crystallized form of consciousness channeled into existence by the artist.✨

Art can also be an expression of ego and have undesirable effects.

I knew that from that point forward I only wanted to be surrounded by art that was a pure emanation of Source, which is how I personally define Visionary Art.

Stunned and in a state of disbelief, I moved over to Apotheosis by Luke Brown. I stood in the presence of the woman in the artwork and after a while, she began to deliver a message.

She said, “You are an emissary of shamanic art, and your purpose is to connect others with the art that will be most aligned for their healing.” She then took her hands and extended them toward me, placing the light she was holding directly into my heart. I felt her powerful transmission transform me.

My prayer had been answered.

By art.

I walked out of the gallery feeling a level of fulfillment so deep I never knew it was possible. I floated around the festival feeling more confident, empowered and inspired than ever before. It was pitch dark but I could navigate without any light. I was in a state of pure magic and art had awakened this in me.

I had no idea how this would manifest in real life, but soon after the festival, I received an invitation to the wedding of two new friends who inspired me beyond words.

As I spoke to them about their vision for the wedding, they shared that their dream was to have Android Jones paint a portrait of them in celebration of their union. They didn’t know him and weren’t sure how to make it happen, or if it was even possible.

Immediately I knew it was my assignment to bring this dream into reality because this would be an incredible work of art. I knew someone who was connected to the artist and began to put the pieces together, as my wedding gift to the couple. It was a winding road to get there but the artist became enrolled in the project and came to the wedding to create the portrait.

The portrait became Union, arguably his most famous work of art.

I constantly see Union posted all over the internet by people who don’t even know the couple, accompanied by words about divine partnership inspired by the art. My heart feels so full every time it happens.

As of today, Union is being displayed in the Smithsonian and I feel so thrilled to have played a role in its creation. I offer a huge congratulations to Android Jones for exhibiting his art there – a well-deserved honor.

Since then I’ve continued to work behind the scenes to facilitate custom works of Visionary Art and Music, and it is a great joy every time.

This was the beginning of my deep love affair with Visionary Art. When I say art is my soul mate, this is where it all began, and there is so much more to come…

One very big or infinitesimally small step in the direction of our true Yes in the moment will always take us where we need to go, even if it doesn’t seem like it at the time.

This is what it looks like to live our purpose. One foot in front of the other, guided by our Heart.

Whenever I look back on those moments of feeling confused or lost, an aligned step forward was always the solution, and it led me somewhere better than I would have been able to imagine from my vantage point.

Sometimes the steps have been simple and small, like eating an orange or taking a bath or posting on Facebook. Sometimes they have been complicated like signing a lease on a house I couldn’t afford or taking a trip that made no sense to me or quitting my career.

I’ve never regretted a single one.

Whenever I take that step I feel new levels of energy and vitality coursing through me. When I stay in a loop of analysis paralysis, trying to predict and game the future, I feel dead inside.

It is so much easier and always possible to figure out the next step than it is to map out the entire journey (which will always change as life unfolds).

Whenever one of my clients or friends feels stuck, I invite them to follow the whispers of Yes moment by moment to see what magic wants to unfold. (And sometimes I need reminders too).

My Heart is my Guru and always (eventually) leads me to the Light.

Their first inclination was to “take the other person down,” or to seek revenge in order to make things right.

I completely get it. Who hasn’t fantasized about having a triumphant victory against Evil incarnate after our core values and beliefs were trampled on egregiously?

I had two things to say to these people, and I wanted to share this message more broadly because I think it’s so important:

1) Revenge is unnecessary and hurts the avenger

The way karma works is that we’ve either already done something in this life or a previous life to deserve what just happened to us, or if we haven’t, life will take care of evening out the energy on our behalf. Regardless, we don’t need to do anything other than act with integrity, i.e. according to what our inner compass tells us in a moment of clarity.

If we take matters into our own hands and try to embody the law of karma ourselves, we will just create more of the same situation, on repeat. Most likely we will actually make things much worse, since it’s hard to accurately measure the far reaching repurcussions of our actions, especially ones taken out of spite.

It’s not that we have to pretend the other person is right, forgive them or spiritualize the experience. It’s just that we don’t need to DO anything fancy to right their wrong. If what they did was illegal we can press charges, report them, or do whatever is lawful and in alignment, but beyond that we risk harming ourselves.

If we trust reality, we can breathe through the experience and burn karma away instead of creating more of it, which will lead us into a more peaceful existence.

2) This anger is a clue to our next level purpose

If something makes us extremely angry, it’s because we care. We are passionate about it (the word passion comes from the root, “pain.”)

For example, I get so irked when I see people teaching and writing about things where they don’t know what they are talking about. Armchair “experts” make my blood boil, especially when it comes to esoteric wisdom.

I could go around commenting angrily on everything I see that falls into this category, which would certainly take a lot of energy and piss off lots of people.

Or, I could look deeper.

What this tells me is that I’m passionate about going deep and developing expertise and speaking truth.

When I look underneath that, I also see that I am secretly mad at myself for not sharing more publicly, because I have a story that “there are other people who have even more expertise than me,” which is the shadow side of my belief.

There will always be someone with more expertise than me, so I need to loosen my grip on that point of view! And at the same time, there is still validity in there to mine for my truest expression.

As it happens, my most popular article online is in Elephant Journal and denounces shitty astrologers who write BS horoscopes to get attention and business.

5 years later, people read this article and book sessions with me because they resonate with my point of view.

This is a healthy and productive way to channel my passion into my purpose.

I can use my passion and anger to find my voice.

As an entrepreneur in a sea of information, my voice needs to be unique to catch the attention of those who want to work with me. I need to stand out, not blend in, in order to be remembered.

This is how to use anger and passion in a good way.

Or that moment when something you *were* a full “yes” to starts to feel “off,” but your mind insists it’s fine, and you don’t want to rock the boat, so you just go along with it?

These moments are seeds of wisdom, asking to be watered with our deep listening, so that they can germinate and take root, growing us into our true, aligned path.

This is our inner compass of integrity, telling us that we are out of alignment.

When we ignore these whispers from reality, our lives get overtaken by a field of invasive weeds. And it takes a heroic amount of effort to clear a field of full-grown weeds!

There are so many times I have disregarded these subtle promptings from reality until they turned into loud, flashing sirens that led to all sorts of painful consequences.

Looking back, all I had to do was take the slightly bitter pill of truth – as soon as the symptoms showed up – to avoid getting the full-blown disease.

This has been especially important with romantic partnerships, business partnerships, new clients, new jobs, new hires, houses, housemates, and other investments of time, money and emotional energy.

When we fail to pay attention to our inner guidance, we create a mess.

When we are living inside of a “no,” we start exhibiting unconscious protest behavior. We may avoid, numb out, withdraw, procrastinate or fail to keep our word.

Or we might get triggered, speak unkindly, or do something passive-aggressive.

We wind up hurting ourselves and other people in ways that are hard to clean up.

This drains our vital energy.

It is very difficult to access our highest vibration when we are unwittingly lying to ourselves and others.

If we feel depressed, flat, anxious, perpetually angry or sick, it’s a sign that we are living a lie.

Usually we are perpetuating this self deception in order to “keep the peace,” avoid upsetting someone, or get around having an uncomfortable conversation, but it always has the opposite effect.

When we finally deal with the situation and get honest with everyone involved, it feels like a massive dam of energy is released and we can experience joy once again.

Looking back we wonder, “Why did I wait so long?”

It is so helpful to have someone who can be our loving mirror in these moments so we can see our blind spots and return to our truth.

I love doing this for others in my Vedic astrology readings and coaching. And I’ve been blessed with people who do this for me.

NB: Do not ever be this mirror for someone without their consent. It doesn’t work. 😉

The Full Lunar eclipse is on Wednesday and it’s an ideal time to peek under the thinning veil of illusion and identify our delusions. Inner vision will be strong with the Full Moon in Cancer.

It is NOT a good time to take new actions as emotions will be amplified and new insights may need time to marinate so we can be sure of what’s real and unreal. (Wait until 2 days after the Solar Eclipse on the 15th if you can!)

I love reading for these people because I don’t do either of those things, but I feel so badly for them, and it brings up a key piece that I want to share about how to choose any guide, coach or mentor.

I’ve worked with a number of coaches and mentors, and I have learned a lot – often the hard way – about how to choose the right person at the right time. I’ve made some very expensive mistakes so you don’t have to.

Here is what it all boils down to: Don’t hire a mentor from fear alone.

Every time I am about to invest money to work with someone new, I always have a little apprehension, from general excitement anxiety to underlying worries about “What if it doesn’t work?” and “What if I fail?”

This is normal.

When we are stepping into something new and big, fear is gonna be there along with a big heaping spoonful of resistance.

However, when we hire a mentor *purely* from a place of fear, we risk placing ourselves in the drama triangle — we are the victim and the mentor is our savior. Before long, when the mentor can’t save us (because no one can – it’s an inside job), they can become the perpetrator who failed us.

If we are only present to thoughts like, “I am out of options,” or “I don’t know what else to do,” and we are feeling low, sad and desperate when we make our decision, we could be operating from fear alone. This is not a good state to operate from because it obscures our truth.

It’s vital then that we feel a big yes in our heart and body about working with the person, in addition to any fear we experience. This is the only way we can ensure we are making an aligned decision.

I find it helpful to get into a better state before deciding to work with someone (this can be a simple as going for a hike or talking with a friend before having an enrollment conversation), to keep checking in with my heart’s true yes, and to seriously ask myself the question, “am I looking to be rescued?”

If I realize, deep down, that I’m just hiring them to avoid stepping into my own power, it’s a red flag. I am probably hiring them to do the very thing I need to do myself. I have done this many times, only to come to the conclusion that I had the best answers in that moment!

When it’s a real yes, I feel lit up and on fire to be working together. I feel validated, more of myself than ever, and inspired to take new actions that allow me to grow exponentially. I feel happy to have invested the money in myself.

When it’s a fake yes, I feel like they don’t quite get me, like I am wasting my time and money, and there is a frustration that they aren’t giving me any new answers. (This is not always the mentor’s fault! It can be, because not everyone is good at coaching, but it’s usually on me for not honoring my truth).

—> There is an important exception to this rule and that is if we are stuck in a destructive pattern, like an addiction that is having adverse effects on our life. Almost no one wants to go to rehab, and the psyche will throw up all sorts of smokescreens and reasons why we aren’t a yes to getting help. If we can get underneath this fog for a moment, that full bodied yes will still be there, but it can be hard to access. In these cases it’s important to find a qualified expert with a great track record for solving this problem, and leap. <—

Even if we feel our yes and hire a mentor from that place, sometimes it still won’t work out. In these cases, the experience of ‘failure’ is what’s aligned for us because it’s helping us grow in a certain way that we need.

…Maybe it reminds us that we have the answers within.

…Maybe it reminds us that we should raise our rates because we are just as good as the mentor!

…Maybe it gives us unexpected wisdom to share with the people we serve.

…Maybe our connection to that mentor will yield sweet fruit down the line.

At the end of the day, the only thing we can really trust in life is our own truth. If we follow that, regardless of the apparent outcome, we will feel like we’ve done the right thing.

I hope this share saves you some time, money and grief! Having a great guide is so vital for our growth but it’s essential to find the right one for us.
